Public Approvals and Permitting

Harvard University is located in multiple jurisdictions each with its own complex and varying regulatory and zoning requirements. UPO brings experience and expertise in identifying requirements and securing public approvals for campus plans and a wide range of capital projects including new construction, additions, renovations, and property acquisitions.

Specifically, UPO assists Harvard project teams by:

  • Preparing detailed regulatory analyses describing requirements for individual projects.
  • Alerting project proponents of potential issues or concerns that may arise during the public approvals process.
  • Participating in the preparation and submission of regulatory application materials.
  • Representing the University before regulatory agencies, boards, and commissions.

UPO provides support and guidance in a number of regulatory areas, including zoning, historic preservation, and accessibility for persons with disabilities.
