Harvard University Planning Office
Planning Services
The University Planning Office (UPO) provides high quality planning services for the University as a whole and for the individual schools and departments. To support the physical planning needs of individual faculties, our staff offers expertise and analysis in:
- land use
- urban design
- transportation and infrastructure
- housing
- regulatory review
- finance
- project management
- and community process
We also offer leadership and critical support for planning across faculties and geographic areas. Our planning goals include creating and implementing a vision for an integrated campus that will serve Harvard's future academic needs and be an asset to the broader urban community.
Graphics, Maps and Data Services
UPO collects, develops, manages, and distributes graphics and data about Harvard's physical environment and surrounding communities to help the University manage physical assets, improve operations, and efficiently plan for the future. Our services include graphic design, computer aided drafting (CAD), geographic information systems (GIS), mapping, and application development. We are a resource in these areas for the Vice President for Administration and the wider University community.
Property Information Resource Center
UPO is also the home of the Property Information Resource Center (PIRC), Harvard's principal repository for records of the institution's buildings and land. The PIRC collects, organizes, catalogs, preserves, and provides efficient access to records and published information that document the University's built environment. The PIRC collections provide critical background material for campus planning, new construction projects, and renovations to Harvard's buildings.
